• Design and construction of prototype 1
• Results from flight tests and comparisons
• Outlook to improved prototype 2 (currently under manufacturing)
• Results from wind tunnel tests for prototype 2
The prototype (2m wing span) will be presented by the poster.

The concept of this work is to use geometric propeller data to create a digital reference design for aircraft noise assessment. For the geometric data a 3D scan of a propeller blade of a 5-bladed general aviation propeller is used. The process was carried out using a propeller design tool based on the Blade Element Momentum Theory (BEMT). The propeller data was validated by comparison with the performance data provided by the manufacturer. Generally, the differences in the thrust coefficient vary between 2–4%. The results show good agreement of propeller performance and propeller noise of the digital reference propeller.
Flight simulators form a significant part of pilot training curricula, enabling safe and cost-effective training. Mixed-Reality (MR) technology is increasingly investigated and adopted in flight simulators to enhance trainee immersion while reducing the cost of conventional visual systems. The DLR Project “ALiTrain” (Advanced Light Aircraft Training) aims to evaluate new training simulators that incorporate MR technology. In particular, the question of training effectiveness is to be examined.

vorgestellt.

Linear and non-linear eddy viscosity models are compared for shock-driven blunt body flows to assess how turbulence anisotropy affects separation prediction. Using the barycentric map, early results show increased two-component anisotropy in shear layers for higher-order models, but no strong direct correlation with separation location. The work investigates the mechanisms linking anisotropy modeling, shock position, separation, and drag.
The motivation of present work is to develop a solution to quickly simulate conceptual propeller aircraft designs in the CPACS-format. The aircraft will then be simulated by the flight simulator available at the Innovation Center for Small Aircraft Technologies at DLR. A reference aircraft has been integrated in the flight simulator and validated with real world flight data. Being able to fly these conceptual aircraft in the simulator complements the design process, and enables applications such as environmental and noise impact assessments at the early design stage.

Fuel consumption is calculated as function of flight distance from few aircraft parameters: MTOM, MZFM, Mach number in cruise, number of cabin seats, mass of one passenger, distance to alternate, reserves on distance (in %). From the Payload-Range Diagram: maximum payload, payload at maximum range, range at maximum payload, maximum range, ferry range. International reserves are distinguished from domestic reserves. Mission Segment Mass Fractions are assumed. Default: Cargo is sacrificed first.
The poster explains how classified design parameters of existing passenger jets can be determined. The classified design parameters are maximum lift coefficient for landing and take-off, the maximum aerodynamic efficiency (glide ratio, L/D) and the specific fuel consumption (SFC). Preliminary sizing and reverse engineering is combined. Only public data is required as input. Iterative processes and optimization is used in Microsoft Excel. The tool verifies the results with handbook methods.
The span efficiency factor (e) of unswept wings is calculated for various aspect ratios (A) and taper ratios (lambda). The efficient notation from Hoerner (1965) is used to produce a function f(lambda) = (1-e)/(eA) from which e can be calculated: e = 1/(1+f(lambda) A). Wings are modeled. At a selected angle of attack, the lift coefficient and the induced drag coefficient are calculated. It follows the span efficiency factor and f(lambda), which is plotted with aspect ratio as parameter.
The climb time to altitude of an aircraft can be calculated with a simple formula, when assuming the climb rate decreases linearly with increasing altitude throughout the entire climb. As altitude changes, parameters such as air density, drag, and thrust change, and with them the optimal flight speed for the climb. The study found that the simple formula leads only to errors below 2% if the reduction of thrust with altitude varies linearly. This is the case with simple thrust models.
Why are aircraft with three or four engines rarely sold today? One hypothesis is that aircraft with a larger number of engines may have higher maintenance costs. To answer this question, six different methods for calculating Direct Operating Costs (DOC) of passenger aircraft are used, which also estimate engine maintenance costs. Findings: engine maintenance cost vary only very little with the number of engines, but larger engines show less Thrust Specific Fuel Consumption (TSFC).

This contribution focuses on the research conducted in the subject area of electrified aviation.
Data-driven models are only as trustworthy as the data behind them, yet real-world datasets carry corrupted targets from sensor faults, drift, dropouts, and mislabeling. Through co-teaching, we pair two Gaussian processes that exchange their low-residual points and set the discard rate from their mutual disagreement, so no contamination rate needs to be assumed. Under K-fold scoring, every point is checked out of fold, so corrupted samples are identified across the entire dataset.
